about
Christianah Owolabi is a Nigerian-American fashion designer and artist whose heritage informs and influences her body of work. The subject matter tends to be centered around theorizing and conceptualizing life, death, and spirituality. She especially has an interest in patternmaking, 3D rendering garments, illustration, and concept development.
Owolabi received her BFA in fashion design in 2022. Throughout her undergraduate years, she has been continuously recognized by her department. In her final year, she earned the Cotton Inc. Special Occasion Award and participated in organizing a fashion show to showcase her senior thesis collection. Within her department, she has been recognized and selected to represent Virginia Commonwealth University in the 2021 CFDA Design Scholar Award competition, illustrate guests onsite for a departmental fashion event, and research applications for textiles made from soy byproducts.

Through this simulated experience, Owolabi gained the opportunity to develop a bridal collection in collaboration with merchandisers. Following the completion of this class, her team received the Cotton Inc. Special Occasion Award to commend their efforts in presenting a feasible collection using Cottonworks technologies.
